Sophie Ecclestone
100% Cricket Superstar
Sophie Ecclestone’s cricketing adventure started early. After coming through age-group sides, the left-arm spinner debuted when she was 17 in July 2016.
Ecclestone’s accuracy and control is supplemented by a lethal arm ball, her go-to wicket-taking delivery. Ever since becoming an England regular, the left-arm spinner has stood out in ICC tournaments, as her returns in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 (21 wickets at 15.61) and ICC Women’s T20 World Cups of 2020 (8 wickets at 6.12) and 2023 (11 wickets at 7.54) showed.
One of the stars of modern-day women’s cricket, Ecclestone became number one in ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings after her standout run in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. As of August 2024, she held the top bowling spots in both white-ball formats rankings. She’s also been a recipient of several accolades (ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year for 2018, ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2021), and a part of ICC Women’s ODI (2018, 2022) and T20I (2021, 2022, 2023) teams of the year on multiple occasions.
