Meet the Chair
Greg Barclay has been a director of New Zealand Cricket since 2012 and was until recently NZC’s appointment to the board of the International Cricket Council.
A director of Cricket World Cup 2015 and a former board member and chairman of the Northern Districts Cricket Association, Greg is an Auckland-based commercial lawyer and an experienced company director, holding board positions with various New Zealand and Australian companies.
He has a long career in governance and sports management and has owned a sport and event management company for the past 20 years, providing various services to sports organisations in New Zealand, mainly involving large-scale occasions such as rugby Tests, world tournaments, and concert and cultural events.
Greg is married to Sally, with whom he has three teenaged daughters. He was educated at the University of Canterbury, has a post graduate business qualification, and was a partner in his own law firm up until 2015, when he stepped aside to become a consultant and to continue with his other business interests.
Born in 1961, he holds dual New Zealand and Canadian citizenship. He has played, or has otherwise been involved in, cricket for most of his life, rising to senior men’s representative level, and still playing club cricket when he was in his forties. He was also a keen rugby player.
Later, Greg joined the board of Northern Districts and was chair of that organisation until he joined the NZC board in 2012. He has been Chair of NZC since 2016, on the ICC Board since 2014, and was a member of the board of Cricket World Cup 2015 that delivered the Men’s Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
