Abdul
Qadir
Pakistan
Cricket’s fascination with leg-spin has a lot to thank Abdul Qadir for, a glowing exponent of the craft and the man most responsible for keeping it alive throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Player Bio
Born in Lahore in 1955, Qadir debuted in Test cricket as a 22-year-old, finishing with 236 Test wickets at 32.80, and 132 ODI wickets at an average of 26. Full of energy in the field and through his bouncing bowling action, Qadir had a number of the variations many in future generations emulated.
Qadir’s 9/56 against England in Lahore in 1987 remains the best innings figures for a Pakistan bowler, and the eighth of all time.
