Born on September 26, 1943, Ian Chappell is regarded as one of the greatest Australian captains, leading the team between 1971 and 1975 before joining World Series Cricket. He created a team of aggressive and resourceful players and under him, Australia never lost a Test series. Born in a cricketing family, Chappell entered the international arena with his Test debut against Pakistan in December 1964. A middle-order batsman defined by guts more than grace, Chappell scored 5,345 runs in 75 Test matches at an average of 42.4. Since his retirement, Chappell has been a prominent cricket writer and commentator.
