Born on November 24, 1930 in Reading, Berkshire, Ken Barrington made his Test debut for England in 1955 against South Africa at Nottingham. In an impressive Test career spanning 13 years, Barrington amassed 6,806 runs. What was impressive about Barrington was his ability to maintain an average of 58.67 even after playing in 82 Test matches. Barrington made a career-best 256 against Australia in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in 1964, the knock taking 683 minutes. An unfortunate heart attack forced a premature retirement at the age of 37. He played his last Test against Australia at Leeds in 1968.
