Argentina gears up for Regional Qualifier on the road to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026

The next step in the race for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 begins on Monday with Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the USA set to do battle in Buenos Aires at the Americas Qualifier.
The teams arrived in the Argentinian capital on Friday with hopes of advancing to the final stage of qualification – the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2026 – a ten-team global event which will determine the remaining teams that will feature in England and Wales in 2026.
Twelve matches in a double round-robin format will be held across the eight-day competition, kicking off with an opening double-header of Canada v USA and Argentina v Brazil at the St Albans Club Ground on Monday. Teams will play each other twice before the event concludes on 17 March with only the table-topping side advancing to the next stage.
A vibrant build-up also witnessed the launch of a participation programme for girls in Argentina on International Women’s Day, with the competing teams leading the festivities alongside Argentinian Olympic stars including three-time hockey medallist and flag-bearer at Paris 2024, Rocio Sanchez Moccia.
All matches in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Americas Qualifier will be available to watch live on ICC.tv, while fans in the Asian subcontinent can follow the action on FanCode.

Reflecting on the prospect of qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Argentina captain Alison Stocks, stated: “It would be a dream come true. I don't know how long I have in the game but I know that the young team that is playing in the Americas Qualifier deserves it, and it would be an honour to help these young girls accomplish this huge goal.”
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will see a greater number of competing teams (12) and matches (33) than ever before.
Eight teams have already gained automatic qualification to the event; Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies by virtue of their performances at the 2024 edition, plus Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who were the two next highest ranked teams on the ICC Women’s T20I rankings table on 21 October 2024.
The four remaining spots will be determined through the ten-team Qualifier, comprising teams that have advanced from regional pathway events such as next week’s Americas Qualifier and subsequent competitions held in Africa, Asia, Europe and the East Asia-Pacific in 2025.
