Lorna Jack powers Scotland to victory against the Dutch in another day affected by wet conditions

• Scotland chase Netherland’s respectful score of 112 thanks to Lorna Jack’s 60 runs in soggy conditions.

Yesterday’s washout meant another planned double-header today, with Netherlands v USA in the morning followed by the re-scheduled Scotland v Netherlands match from the previous day.

The Dutch and American sides arrived at the ground to find an outfield heavily affected by overnight rain, with surface water visible in numerous places. Tireless work by the ground staff gave both sides optimism that a limited-overs match might be possible, but further showers scattered throughout the morning led to the eventual abandonment of the match. The first-round Netherlands v USA match will now be played on Wednesday 16th August at 2.30pm.

During lunch the sun began to shine and, thanks to the continued efforts of the groundsmen, the umpires were able to decide the pitch was finally safe to play on and that the afternoon match could get underway without any loss of overs. Scotland’s Abbi Aitken won the toss and tentatively decided to put the Dutch in to bat first.

Babbette de Leede (19), Cher van Slobbe (22) and Heather Siegers (25) all put on useful scores despite being unable to kick on as wickets fell regularly throughout the innings. Helmien Rambaldo’s quick-fire 32 not out from 24 balls helped push the Netherlands to a seemingly defendable total of 112.

Scotland showed clear intent taking the attack to the Netherlands’ bowlers in the early overs. An opening stand of 72 from 8.5 overs put the Scottish in a winning position. It was Player of the Match Lorna Jack’s 60 runs off 48 balls, which took the game away from the Dutch. The Dutch bowlers struggled to find their lines and captain Siegers made frequent changers in an attempt to take wickets and stall the Scottish onslaught. A late surge in wickets could only delay the inevitable as the Scot’s passed the Dutch total in the 16th over for the loss of 3 wickets.

The tournament continues tomorrow at 10.00am (GMT+1) with Scotland v USA followed by Netherlands v USA at 14.30pm (GMT+1).
