This Ultimate Test is the culmination of two years of intense competition in the ICC World Test Championship, spanning 69 Test matches over 27 series played to decide the finalists.

India are currently at the top of the Test standings as per the percentage points that determine qualification, with Australia close behind in second place. New Zealand are in third place, with England, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and South Africa bunched together mid-table.

The Test at Lord’s will decide the winner of the third edition of the ICC World Test Championship. New Zealand won the inaugural championship in 2021, and Australia lifted the Test Mace in 2023.

The Ultimate Test is a must-watch match in the cricket calendar as the drama of the sport ebbs and flows in the most traditional format, celebrating the history and heritage of cricket and creating an unforgettable experience for fans.

ICC Chief Executive, Geoff Allardice said: “The ICC World Test Championship Final has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the cricketing calendar and we are pleased to announce the dates for the 2025 edition. It's a testament to the enduring appeal of Test cricket, which continues to captivate fans around the world. Tickets will be in high demand so I would encourage fans to register their interest now to ensure they are in with a chance of attending the Ultimate Test next year."

ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 winning captain, Pat Cummins said: “Winning the World Test Championship was, and still is, a big goal for this team. It is the culmination of hard work and consistency over the two-year cycle for all teams.

“So hopefully we will be there again, there’s a lot of cricket still to be played between now and then, and the fans can get a chance to watch us defend the title.”

Guy Lavender, Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the ICC to host the World Test Championship Final for the first time. Test match days at Lord’s are special and to welcome the two best men’s sides in the world at the time, to battle it out at the Home of Cricket, will be a cricketing experience not to be missed.”
