14 February - Gqeberha - Australia player Georgia Wareham post-match press conference
[Reporter]
How did it feel to come back and take three wickets on your return after the lockdown?
[Georgia]
Yeah it's pretty cool to just be back out there in Aussie colors again. Anytime I get to play for Australia is pretty special and to do that in a World Cup and contribute like I did today is pretty cool and to sort of come away with the win as well is pretty cool.
[Reporter]
And what were the conditions like out there?
[Georgia]
Sort of like a mix I think. It was enough in it for the bowlers but it was still sort of coming on for the batters as well so promising signs. Hopefully it starts to spin a little bit more with a few more games on that wicket but yeah enough in it for the bowlers today which was good.
[Reporter]
Can you talk a little bit about that time you spent out and just how tough it was you know when you were facing a year out of the game just sort of what was going through your mind and the emotions at that time?
[Georgia]
Yeah I mean it was it was pretty tough early days. I think like I missed out on the one day World Cup, the Ashes, Kong games like all that sort of stuff in the one sort of space of 12 months which is not ideal but I think at the start I was watching a lot of cricket and sort of finding myself missing it a lot but after a while I sort of knuckled down into rehab and probably stopped watching it as much which was hard but you know I had really good people around me that helped me get through that I've got a lot to thank for but yeah I think there's some dark days along the rehab but to come out the other side of it and sort of be where I am at the moment I'm very thankful for those people.
[Reporter]
As you progress through that recovery was this a particular goal to get back in time for would you say?
[Georgia]
Yeah I mean it was always a bit of a target. No one really liked to set any sort of return dates which can always be really tricky in rehab but yeah it was probably one sort of glaring thing at the end there. It was always going to be tight I think and I sort of thank the selectors for sort of backing me having not played heaps of cricket coming into this World Cup - so yeah I'm really thankful for them putting a lot of trust in me yeah but I guess it was sort of there in the back of my mind most of the rehab.
[Reporter]
Just on that what was your reaction to going in the WPL option yesterday having not played much D20 at all?
[Georgia]
Yeah I mean it was a strange day for everyone involved I think yeah I think it's really important for women's cricket and I think it's yes it's really great the way that the game's going and yeah I certainly didn't expect to get picked up I guess but yeah like everyone I guess we probably all hoped to be involved I think the first year of anything is really cool and to get over there and play in India will be really special and I'm yeah really looking forward to it.
[Reporter]
Hi Georgia, congratulations on that Player of the Match award. Speaking of your WPL date, you're going to share the dressing room in all likelihood with Annabelle Sutherland, Ashley Gardner and Beth Mooney. So four Australians there. What do you make of the look of the squad, Gujarat Giants, which also has Rachel Haynes as the head coach? How excited are you about the presence of so many Australians in the house?
[Georgia]
I think it'll be really cool. I think being able to share the dressing room with those girls will be really exciting and then being able to play under Rachel will be really cool for the first season. Bowlers up front have been really good. I think Darcy Brown's been really good setting the tone. So yeah, I mean we'll look to do much of the same that we've been doing and sort of capitalise I think with the bat at the top of the order. I think Midge has been really good. Maroons has probably been a little bit unlucky a couple of times the way that she's going out but yeah, I mean the quality of the top order in our batting unit is really up there. So yeah, I think much of the same really, not much changes.
