19 March - Auckland - England player Katherine Brunt pre-match press conference
Reporter: The game against New Zealand is a must win game, for both teams. For both teams and the hosts New Zealand, how important do you think that makes the game?
Katherine: Yeah its crucial for both teams, I think both teams have been in the thick of it every game now every game now, every game is going down to the wire. So, the importance of each game has been the same throughout the tournament so far, and also, the games that we've put on display have been really tense ones so it's not anything that’s any different to what we've already experienced. So, you know, just another game for us.
Reporter: How do you feel it'd be different for New Zealand with the game now being a must win for them in that home World Cup? Do you think that makes it more difficult for them?
Katherine: I would say so. Yeah. We didn't experience that ourselves in 2017. Because we you know, we had that wakeup call very early on. So we got ourselves right pretty early and won every game thereafter. So we didn't have that feeling of the nervousness of everything being a knockout. So I would say that would definitely add some tension, especially with it being at Eden Park, and I have no doubt there'll be a very good outpouring of people for that game to support their country so 100% will add the pressure on there for them.
Reporter: Yeah. And did you get a chance to take a look at a pitch at Eden Park?
Katherine: Yeah. I've actually never been to Eden Park before, it's a great thing for myself personally to now say, I've been there seen it for myself, and I really liked the look of it. It's got a really great feel. There's a wonderful stadium. Surprise I've never played there before. Only one time, I believe in the last 10 years or so. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to it, it looks like a great pitch for cricket. Hopefully it'll be a bit more pace and carry than there has been this whole time, which is what we've all been dying for so - Yeah, fingers crossed and we'll get a look at it today again, Australia against India.
Reporter: You mentioned that game, England obviously training today at the outer of Eden Park, will you get along to watch the India Australia game and take something away from how the pitch performs?
Katherine: Well, I do believe there's an opportunity to go and watch it today. Me myself I like to lay down horizontal and keep my feet fresh for tomorrow and I will certainly be watching every ball on the TV and watching with interest as to how the pitch plays because that for us is a huge bonus to be able to have a look at it first before we get to assess.
Reporter: Watching with interest has been pretty much the vibe of the whole tournament, with an unbelievable amount of close results and tight finishes. We saw another one yesterday with Bangladesh which we were watching closely in England camp. How good has it been for women’s cricket to see so many tight finishes.
Katherine: Well it's certainly never the situation you want to be in and every game has been that kind of situation. Obviously the last three games we've lost have been a total of probably lost by about 20 in total which is mad, these things generally happen one in five - so for every game to be going down the way just to the way, just shows you how much nerves there are and how much teams have improved. Not necessarily taken for granted or think less of - just we're getting to experience - we've not played these teams in forever. So it's like your first look for a few years and people can improve in six months. never mind three, four years. So you know people - we're learning, it’s like a learning experience along the way, we don't play to the regularly - so yeah, it's nice. They're nice surprises. It's great to see everybody playing good cricket and different people coming out of the woodwork
Reporter: For a pure viewer point of view not as a player but from just watching a number of games you watch has been very entertaining?
Katherine: Entertaining, stressful. Learning. Yeah, it has been great. It's been a lot of obviously, we're in a position where we are relying on people's results. So, there's some becoming a fan of other teams. Maybe not what you want. That's just the reality of it. But it's been great. It's been great to watch all the other nations and be a part of games like that and put on exciting games of cricket.
Reporter: England obviously up against this tournament, already have one must win game and have got three more must win games. Do you think the team can benefit from kind of having been through adversity before and having played a lot of cricket with your backs against the wall?
Katherine: Yeah, definitely. I mean, we've had 10 weeks of our backs against the wall. We fought a lot in Australia. We gave everything in the Ashes. We went from there probably not being in the best headspace. But we are certainly learning to show fight, adapt quickly and move on pretty quick from disappointments. So you can't be in form all the time. But what you can do is always show fight and keep turning up and that's what we're doing and might not be pretty at times but that’s just how we got to do it and how we get past each game. Hopefully things will improve.
