26 March - Wellington - Bangladesh Captain Nigar Sultana pre-match press conference
Reporter: Just want to ask, now that you've had time to reflect on yesterday's results and how you performed, how much confidence can you take from that game going into tomorrow and what improvements are you looking to make?
Nigar: Yeah obviously what we did yesterday - it was like a bowlers’ show and some of the batters batted well - like Salma and Lata. I am hoping that the top order will also bounce back in tomorrow’s game. It’s the last game and we want to take all the positives back home.
Reporter: And just one more, England are a team that like to sweep a lot and you have in this tournament relied heavily on your spin group, they’ve performed extremely well. So you know, have you kind of sat down and discussed how you want to tackle their batters and any plans on how to approach that and maybe cut down the short or restrict them from scoring runs?
Nigar: We plan for each individual in teams every time. We have a good spin attack, so we are going to plan against them and not let them play the kind of shots they are used to playing. Obviously, our bowling unit so far is doing well, so I'm hoping they will do the same thing tomorrow.
Reporter: Joti, The thing is that it's you played a long World Cup. Normally you are not used to playing in such a long tournament. You must be tired physically and mentally. So how ready are you physically and mentally for tomorrow's match?
Nigar Sultana: Yes, we have never played such a long tournament. But since tomorrow's match is our last one, we are keen to perform well, ensure that we go back to Bangladesh with good memories, memories that will inspire us in the future. And if you've noticed in the whole tournament, we had some fine individual performances, as a team we have done very well against Pakistan. That's why we won the match. So, we all will try, we think that tomorrow each and every one of us individually can contribute a little to the team. And if we as a whole team we can make some small contributions, we can have a good match.
Reporter: Well, from the last match, if I say personally, whether you have any personal desires, you had a good innings with England in the 2016 T20 World Cup in Bangalore. Just, since the World Cup is coming to an end, do you want to keep an impression in any way? Or what will be the personal desire in the last match?
Nigar: Of course. You see, I don't know how much I might have contributed to the team in the last few years, but it seemed to me that in this World Cup I couldn't play the kind of game I play or contribute to the team, as I always try to do. So, I want to say that in the last match, at least I can give something to the team so that at the end of the World Cup I can say no, at least I tried in the last match and was able to contribute. So, this will be a matter of my own satisfaction.
Reporter: Hello Joti, I wanted to know since this was your first world cup tournament in 50 overs format. So as a captain how do you see the whole world cup, how it has gone for you? And Salma Khatun is a very important and experienced player in your team. If you can please say a little about him, then it will be good.
Nigar: If I talk about Salma first, I think she contributes to the team all the time. Recently she has improved her batting a lot. In the last two matches, she has performed consistently for the team which is a very good sign. And basically, we are much more dependent on Salma because she bowls in three or four spells. Whenever there is a tough situation, I give the ball to Salma for her to either control the moment or take a wicket or lower the run rate in that over. So, basically, I think she is the most important player for the team and obviously, she is so experienced and has a lot of playing experience that helps me a lot on the field. She discusses a lot with me on the field and off it too, which helps me a lot. And obviously, as a captain, I think, so far what we've already done in this tournament, maybe we could do better than that. We had the ability to do more than that, we were capable, but somehow, we couldn't do it with the two departments together, so we lost a couple of close matches. It seems to me that in the future we should not make these same mistakes and learn how to keep calm in these situations and control the situation and bat. Because, so far our bowling unit is supporting the team more but we as a batting unit did not really play that well. So, if we work on these issues, if the batting does as well as our bowling, we can become a strong team.
