Despite his decision to take a break from red-ball cricket, Rashid was a surprise inclusion to the England Test side for the series against India at home, and he featured in all five matches of the 4-1 triumph.

However, National Selector Ed Smith had clarified that in the future, only players with red-ball contracts in the county circuit would be considered for Test selection.

Yorkshire were happy to retain Rashid in the fold, saying they would next assess the agreement with Rashid after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. "I think for now it's good to have the one year and see how the winter goes for Adil," said Martyn Moxon, Yorkshire's Director of Cricket.

"We'll probably have another look at it after the World Cup (in England and Wales next summer) and see where he is, particularly with England and how much he's involved with them. In the short term, it's good to know when he's available he'll be playing for us."

"I think we've been clear from the outset that we wanted to keep Adil at the club. Speaking to Adil, he's keen to stay here and has been here all his life. He's in no mood to change that. We're really pleased to keep him."

Rashid, who is an integral part of the England limited-overs sides, has been named in the one-day international as well as Test squads to tour Sri Lanka in October and November.
