Hayley Matthews of the West Indies celebrates scoring a century during game two of the T20 International series between Australia and the West Indies

Matthews slammed a record-breaking century as West Indies reached Australia’s target of 213 to complete the biggest-ever run chase in women’s T20Is.

The red-hot Matthews blasted 132 runs from 64 balls to continue her incredible scoring streak while West Indies completed the stirring victory with seven wickets and one ball to spare.

Ellyse Perry (70) and a record-equalling fifty from young gun Phoebe Litchfield (52*) had put Australia in control as they amassed 212/6, but the reigning ICC Women's T20 World Cup champions were unable to hold off the West Indies batting attack as Matthews led the charge.

The West Indies captain also took 3/36 against a rampaging Australia batting line-up in an imperious all-round performance that earned Matthews the Player of the Match award and another of several records to tumble at North Sydney Oval.

**132:**Matthews hit the highest-ever individual score for West Indies in a women’s T20I to pass Deandra Dottin's 112* against South Africa at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2010. The opener’s score is now also the biggest individual total in the second innings of a women's T20I, and the sixth highest overall.

**7:**Matthews’ blazing form has led to the all-rounder collecting the POTM award in each of West Indies’ past seven T20Is. The 25-year-old has scored 452 runs at an average of 90.40 and with a strike rate of 138.22 in that seven-match stretch, while also taking 15 wickets at 10.60 while facing Australia, Ireland and Pakistan.

213: West Indies set a new benchmark for the highest successful run chase in women’s T20Is and became the first team to reach the 200-run mark while doing so after England reached 199/3 against India in 2018.

**213/3:**West Indies reached their highest total in women’s T20Is after also passing the 200-run mark for the first time in the format. It was also the first time a team has gone past 200 runs against Australia in a women’s T20I.

425: Australia and West Indies lit up North Sydney Oval with the most runs scored in a women’s T20I. It was also the first time two teams had combined for more than 400 runs in the format, after India and England put together 397 runs in 2018.

174: Stefanie Taylor scored 59 runs off 41 balls to ensure it was more than just a one-woman show for Matthews, as the pair put on 174 runs for the highest West Indies partnership in women’s T20Is. The stand passed the 162 runs that Matthews compiled with Chedean Nation against Ireland in 2019.

18: Australia batting prodigy Phoebe Litchfield had earlier set her own benchmark when equalling the record for the fastest fifty in women’s T20Is. Litchfield matched the 18 balls that New Zealand stalwart Sophie Devine needed to reach a half-century against India in 2015.

**2:**West Indies snatched only their second win in 15 women’s T20Is against the all-conquering Australia, and their first since upsetting the defending champions in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2016. The latest triumph was just the third time West Indies have defeated Australia in 32 women's internationals.

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews produced the match-winning performance in a tight encounter against Ireland at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023.
