Amelia Kerr the big mover in latest WODI rankings
Amelia Kerr, Lizelle Lee, Dane van Niekerk, and Tammy Beaumont all made significant movement in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Women’s ODI Rankings.
Kerr, the 17-year-old New Zealand all-rounder, broke the record for the highest individual score in women’s ODIs, hammering an unbeaten 232 against Ireland Women on Wednesday, 13 June. Her efforts ensured a jump of 38 places in the batting rankings, and she now sits at No. 42 with 365 rating points.
Meanwhile, Kerr’s captain at New Zealand, Suzie Bates, was ousted from the second spot, with South Africa opener Lizelle Lee gaining seven places to No.2 with 724 points. Lee scored an unbeaten 92 in the first of three ODIs against England, and followed it up with a 117* in Hove.
Other gainers among the batters included England’s Tammy Beaumont, who scored back-to-back hundreds against South Africa in Hove and Canterbury, the latter helping England clinch the series. She jumped three places to sit at a career-high No.10.
Dane van Niekerk, the South Africa captain, jumped eight spots to a career-high No.13, thanks to her two half-centuries in the three matches against England, including a 95 in the final ODI.
Kerr was a big mover among the bowlers as well. Her 5/17 against Ireland, in the same match in which she scored that record-breaking 232*, helped her gain eight places to No.23. Her all-round performance meant she made significant gains in the all-rounders rankings as well – she is placed 14th, after a jump for 25 places.
Elsewhere, South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail, who picked up five wickets against England, gained three places to climb to a career-high No.3, and in doing so pushed down her team-mate Marizanne Kapp to No.4. Ayabonga Khaka, their team-mate, gained a spot to be placed at No.7.
Australia’s Jess Jonassen and Megan Schutt continued leading the bowlers charts at No.1 and No.2 respectively. Pakistan’s Sana Mir (No.5) and India’s Jhulan Goswami (No.6) are the only players from the sub-continent in the top ten.
Ellyse Perry maintained her position at the top of the batters’ rankings with 744 points. She also leads the all-rounders rankings, and is No.10 among the bowlers, making her the only player in the top ten across categories.
