Archer 'over the moon' after devastating six-for

Archer, 24, made his international debut in May this year, and was one of the chief architects of England's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 triumph. Then, on his Test debut at Lord's, he grabbed eyeballs with his unsettling pace that bagged him five wickets for the match. And now, he has recorded his maiden five-for in Test cricket.

His brilliant spell of 6/45 helped England bowl Australia out for 179 in their first innings. However, it wasn't just with pace that Archer did the opposition in, he also bowled with enormous skill.

"I’m over the moon to get six wickets," he said at the press conference after play. "I guess these are the things you train for. If you train hard in the game, you should be rewarded eventually. [And] I don’t need to run in and bowl 90mph every spell to get wickets. It’s shown that today."

Archer was also overwhelmed with the support of the home crowd. "The support is heartwarming. Whenever I walk to my mark, everyone cheers. When we get a wicket, there’s even more support. It’s nice to feel welcomed and appreciated."

Australia opener David Warner, who was one of Archer's victims – the second successive time he has fallen to the pacer – lauded the youngster and said that he reminds him of South African great Dale Steyn.

"Jofra Archer’s record with the red ball is very good. He’s got pace and skill," said Warner. "I look at him like Dale Steyn, searching for swing and movement early on, but then ramping up their speed later. That is world-class bowling and England have a great prospect."
