Green missed the first two Tests of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the all-rounder was recovering from an injury he picked up during last year’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa.

However, the West Australia player made an immediate impact after making it back into the playing XI. On a tricky surface at Indore, Green scored 21 in a crucial 40-run stand with Peter Handscomb to help extend Australia's lead. At Ahmedabad, Green stitched together a record fifth-wicket stand of 208 runs with Usman Khawaja, scoring a brilliant 114. This was the highest fifth-wicket stand by an Australia batting pair in India.

Ashwin was all praise for the young star.

He referred to Green’s big price tag during the IPL auction, to show how highly rated the all-rounder was.

"I hope you tuned into the IPL auction, it just tells you how the Indian cricketing fraternity rates Cameron Green," Ashwin added.

"I think he's a fantastic player. Just the raw materials that’s available, a person as tall as him, lovely levers, good batting sense, can bowl and really hit the deck well, moves pretty well in the field.

"These are once-in-a-generation cricketers you are talking about. However, we come from different countries. India is very different. We can't, you know, protect such players for longer periods of time.

"But in countries like Australia and England, these cricketers are groomed pretty well, and I expect Cameron Green to be a wonderful cricketer down the line."
