Cameron Green reveals injury timeline ahead of India series

Green broke a finger in his right hand while batting during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa last month and the 23-year-old only recently had surgery on the affected area.

The emerging star of Australian cricket is sitting out the ongoing third and final Test of the home summer against South Africa in Sydney, but is aiming to return to action as soon as possible ahead of a busy upcoming schedule.

Not only does Green have the series against India commencing on February 9 in his sights, but the hard-hitting all-rounder is due to play his first IPL tournament after he was recently purchased by the Mumbai Indians for a record amount.

Reports recently surfaced in India that Green may only be used as a batter during the IPL, but the Australian shut down those rumours when speaking to Perth radio station SEN Sportsday WA on Thursday.

"No, that’s not correct," Green said when asked whether he will not be able to bowl during the IPL.

"I’ve heard about this for a quite a while now…I don’t know where it’s come from.

"I’ve heard that I’m 100 percent available for both skill sets in the IPL at the start, so yeah, I’m not too sure where that’s kind of come from."

While the IPL is sandwiched in between a Test series in India and a potential ICC World Test Championship final and Ashes series in England in the middle of the year, Green said he will be doing everything he can during his recovery to get back to playing as quickly as possible.

Green currently has veteran quick Mitchell Starc alongside him in the recovery room after the veteran quick also hurt his finger against the Proteas and both are focused on getting their bodies right.

"Obviously my first priority is the Test Series that’s beforehand,” Green said when asked about the start of the IPL at the end of March.

"I think me and Starcy (Starc) are maybe touch and go for that first one (Test against India) but obviously we’ll give ourselves the best chance."
