Carrie Archer relishes Ireland's chance to show their potential on the world stage

The 2018 competition will be the third time that Ireland have appeared at the ICC World T20, but they are yet to win a game at the tournament. This is not a concern for Archer who feels that the tournament is a wonderful platform on which to showcase the talents of the team against their more experienced opponents.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing the girls getting out there and showing the world on such a huge stage what they're actually capable of," she said. "They've got a very intense schedule ahead of them. The girls are working, they're in college, studying really hard and they're fitting all of this in around that and they're going out to do this against professional cricketers who do this as their full-time job."

Archer also sees the tournament as an opportunity to promote the game in Ireland. She hopes that as the tournament will be broadcast in Ireland, members of the public previously not exposed to cricket will be able to get behind the team and potentially pick up the sport in the near future.

Archer said: "What I'm really looking forward to in the ICC World T20 is the fact that it's going to be broadcast live. It means I actually can watch the game from home instead of following it on ball-by-ball live scoring. It means that as a cricket community it gives us the opportunity to share with other people how exciting and dynamic the T20 format is. Having been to the ICC World T20 before, I know how exciting it is and I really want to share that with others and get other people on board to want to go and play cricket and find clubs next year."

Ireland's campaign starts on November 11th against Australia in Guyana. They feature in Group B alongside Australia, New Zealand, India and Pakistan.
