Concern for England as batting star in doubt for remainder of T20 World Cup

England were set a tall target of 190 against South Africa in Sharjah, with semi-final qualification on the line for both teams. They were motoring along in the chase, with Roy leading the way with 20 in 15 balls, including four fours, when things went wrong for the opener.

In the fifth over, Roy pulled up a few strides into a single, struggling with an apparent issue with his left leg. While he limped through the run, he could go no further.

He was in evident agony in the middle, unable to walk on his own, and seemed emotional when he was helped off the field by the physio and his teammates.

He was replaced in the middle by Moeen Ali.

This is England's second big injury concern of the tournament after bowler Tymal Mills was ruled out of the campaign with a thigh strain.

The exact nature and extent of Roy's injury and his availability for the rest of the tournament is unclear.

Back in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, too, Roy had suffered a hamstring injury which kept him out of a few games before he returned to play a big part in England's title run.
