Knight suffered a back injury during the first ODI in Antigua on Thursday, 5 September and was taken off the field on a stretcher. She did not come out to bat as the home side succumbed to a 178-run loss. She was also not able to participate in the second game three days later, which West Indies lost by 151 runs.

After checking her scans, the Cricket West Indies medical team ruled her out for the remainder of the series on Tuesday, 10 September. Heavy losses in both the ODIs forced the board to bring in Cooper, who last played in the three-match ODI series against England in June 2019. Cooper, who was originally not a part of that squad, was called in as a replacement for the injured Deandra Dottin. She played two ODIs but was dismissed for single-digit scores in both of them.

Cooper joined the squad on Monday before the third ODI, which will be played in North Sound, Antigua on Wednesday, 11 September, following which the hosts will take on Australia in a three-match Twenty20 International series, starting from 14 September in Barbados.
