The Australians will be in the country for a month-long stay, doing battle in all three formats and across three cities.

The tour begins with three T20Is from June 7 in Colombo and Kandy, with the two cities also sharing the five ODIs from June 14 to June 24. Two World Test Championship matches, both at the Galle International Stadium (June 29 and July 8), end the tour.

It's been almost six years since Australia's last tour to Sri Lanka, with the tourists losing the Test series in a 3-0 clean-sweep in 2016. Galle was not a happy hunting ground for the Aussies in the second Test of the series, bowled out for 106 and 183 and eventually losing by 229 runs. On the white-ball side, things were merrier for the tourists, winning both the T20I and ODI series convincingly.

“We are in for some exciting cricket, especially considering that an Australian tour to Sri Lanka is taking place after five years," Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva said.

“The T20 Series will help our preparations for the T20 World Cup, whilst the Test and ODI segments are also competitions of immense value for us, as we aim to move through the ICC World Test Championship rankings and also gearing up for the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2023,’’ De Silva added.

The tour is one of three foreign trips for the Australian team in 2022, currently touring Pakistan and also set to travel to India after the Sri Lankan sojourn.
