Debutant Chamika Gunasekara substituted after blow to the head

Sri Lanka's Test debutant Chamika Gunasekara was subbed out for Kasun Rajitha after he copped a blow to the head in Colombo against Afghanistan.

A bouncer from Naveed Zadran hit Sri Lanka's debutant Chamika Gunasekara on the head early on day three of the only Test against Afghanistan in Colombo.

ESPNCricinfo reported that Gunasekara was taken to hospital for further assessment after leaving the field.

The incident occurred late in Sri Lanka's innings with Gunasekara batting on 16. The No.8 batter tried to duck underneath the bouncer, but the low bounce saw him hit flush on the helmet.

A concussion check was done immediately which Gunasekara passed but a couple of overs later he was seen evidently struggling, holding onto his head, and walked off.

He was subsequently replaced and Kasun Rajitha came in as the concussion substitute.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz led Afghanistan to a fine victory over Sri Lanka with a brilliant century

Afghanistan also suffered an injury concern in the form of Mohammad Saleem. The pacer sustained a Grade 2 left hamstring strain on the second day of the Test and has been ruled out of the ongoing match in Colombo.

Sri Lanka took a huge first innings lead in the Colombo Test after centuries from Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal.

But Afghanistan made a strong comeback on day three with the bat with Ibrahim Zadran, Noor Ali Zadran and Rahmat Shah shining.
