Dottin keeps tryst with ODI hundred

Deandra Dottin first burst into the scene in 2008, and has since been seen as someone who revolutionised power hitting in women’s cricket. She, however, had not scored a century in over 100 One-Day Internationals.

To say that the pressure was on her to prove her worth would be stating the obvious. She made the game against Pakistan in the 2017 Women’s World Cup at Grace Road in Leicester on Tuesday count by not only scoring her maiden hundred, but also reaching the milestone in just 71 balls. It is now the fastest ODI hundred by a Windies batter. She also holds the record for the fastest century in the history of Twenty20 Internationals.

The last of her four sixes, off Asmavia Iqbal in the 48th over, was the best as it took her past the three-figure mark. She threw her bat and jumped in delight before being hugged by Merissa Aguilleira, in what was easily the moment of the day.

Dottin remained unbeaten on 104 off 76 balls as Windies posted 285 for 4. Pakistan was set a revised target of 245 in 38 overs after a rain interruption. It had reached 117 for 3 in 24 overs when rain stopped play, and Windies prevailed by 19 runs (DLS Method). The second consecutive win made sure the Windies wouldn’t go back home with the wooden spoon.
