Dr Ashutosh Misra is the National Sports Chair at the Australia India Business Council and also and Executive Committee member of AIBC Queensland Chapter. He has worked at the United Nations, Indian Ministry of Defence, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Griffith Asia Institute, Griffith Criminology Institute and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security, Griffith University, and the T.C. Beirne School of Law, the University of Queensland.
He is the CEO of the Institute for Australia India Engagement (IAIE), a policy think-tank that promotes policy research, dialogues and engagements in various sectors, including sport. Matthew Hayden AM is the IAIE’s Goodwill Ambassador to India.
Dr Misra is also the Editor-in-Chief of India News Australia. He has engaged with Hockey India; Board of Control for Cricket in India; Pro Kabaddi League; Kho Kho Federation of India; Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi; International Centre for Sport Security, Qatar; Integrity in Sport Unit, INTERPOL; Australian Institute of Sport; Australian Crime Commission, Queensland Police, Victoria Police, Australian Federal Police, New South Wales Police and National Integrity in Sport Unit to promote deeper understanding on preserving sports integrity.
In April 2021, Dr Misra organised the Goodwill Cricket Trophy in Brisbane to promote multiculturalism and community engagement between the South Asian community and Queensland Government and Queensland Police Service. In January 2021, Dr Misra interviewed Mr Sunil Gavaskar to discuss key takeaways from the series and the future of Indian cricket. In June 2020, Dr Misra organised the distinguished Triveni dialogue on “Impact of Covid-19 on Sport Sector: Strategising Recovery” — a collaborative dialogue between IAIE, Jindal Global University and the AIBC. In 2019, Dr Misra hosted the IAIE’s eminent person’s oration at the Gabba, delivered by Matthew Hayden and Damien Voltz, Senior Intelligence Analyst, National Integrity in Sports Unit on “Winning or Succeeding: The Role of Integrity in Sports”. In 2012, he led a team of experts from the Queensland Police and Queens University, Belfast to present the Australian perspective on preserving integrity in sport, in an international experts’ meeting organised by the INTERPOL in Singapore. Dr Misra has also organised several sport integrity workshops involving Australian and international stakeholders at the Queensland Cricketers’ Club between 2011-2013.
Dr Misra works very closely with the diverse community organisations in Queensland and has enriched Asian engagements strategies at Griffith University, University of Queensland, Trade and Investment Queensland and DFAT, and provided cultural and policy briefings to Australian federal parliamentarians, Department of Defence, Queensland Police and the Queensland government.
Dr Misra has an impressive media profile and has contributed to the Age, the Australian, the Courier-Mail, Brisbane Times and radio and television networks including the ABC 24 News, 7.30 report, Sky News, Channel Seven, Nine and Ten news, and Triple J-ABC, and ABC Radio National on sports, Australia-India relations and international security.
