England, India docked two WTC points for slow over-rate
Chris Broad, the Match Referee, found both teams to be two overs short of their targets, after adjusting for time allowances, and both captains – England's Joe Root and India's Virat Kohli – were fined 40 per cent of their match fees as well, as per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The first Test between England and India at Trent Bridge ended in a draw. With the game evenly poised, both teams were left frustrated on the final day as the game was called off without a ball being bowled.
That meant the teams were both allotted four points each. According to points system of the 2021-23 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, a team can claim a maximum of 12 points for winning a Test, with six points available in the event of a tie, and four points for a draw.
The teams will now clash in the second Test at Lord's, starting on Thursday, 12 August.
