England inject fresh talent in white-ball squads to face Australia

England will face off against Australia at home in September in a three-match T20I series, followed by five ODIs.

England have named five uncapped players in their T20I squad for the upcoming series against Australia, with three of them also making the cut for the ODI squad.

Batter Jordan Cox, all-rounders Jacob Bethell and Dan Mousley, and pacers Josh Hull and John Turner all stand a chance to make their T20I debut next month against arch-rivals Australia.

Hull, who was recently named as Mark Wood’s injury replacement in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka, is also included in the ODI squad alongside Bethell and Turner.

Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Matthew Potts and Jamie Smith – all of whom are currently engaged in the Test series against Sri Lanka – have also been named in the ODI squad as England intensify their preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ODI squad marks the return of Jofra Archer to the 50-over format for the first time since March 2023.

After dealing with injuries in recent years, Archer has gradually been reintegrated into England's white-ball setup. He has already made a comeback in T20Is and was a part of the England squad at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Jos Buttler will captain the team in both the ODI and T20I series, with Archer, Bethell, Brydon Carse, Hull, Will Jacks, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley and Turner selected to feature in both squads.
