England to play waiting game with key duo ahead of India clash

Wood was sore and skipped training at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, while Malan is facing his own fitness battle as he attempts to recover from the groin injury he picked up against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Match Highlights: England secured their place in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final with a four-wicket win against Sri Lanka.

Jos Buttler was quizzed about the prospects of the key pair taking the field against India during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday and the England skipper said both players will be given every chance to prove they are fit to play.

"We will see how they pull up," Buttler said.

"We will try and give them as long as possible, and obviously Dawid left the field the other day with a small niggle, and Woody has had a little bit of stiffness, but we trust the medical team.

"We trust those two guys, as well, and we'll give them as long as possible."

England speedster Mark Wood bowled the fastest delivery of the tournament yet, touching 155kph on the speed gun during the clash against New Zealand.

The loss of Wood would be difficult for England to overcome with the in-form quick already having picked up nine wickets at the tournament and regularly hit speeds in excess of 150 km/h.

If Malan does miss the semi-final then it could pave the way for fellow batter Phil Salt to play his first game of the tournament, or for England to include an extra bowling option like all-rounder David Willey or veteran Chris Jordan.

Mark Wood returns 3/26 to help deny Sri Lanka a big total in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 clash.

Buttler said he has faith in all members of England's 15-player squad and will be confident they can perform if given the chance.

"We will give as long as we can with those guys… but we have 15 guys preparing to play," he said.

"There's been some really tough selections throughout the whole tournament.

"We've got some fantastic players who have not yet played in the tournament, and they're all desperate to make their mark if given a chance.

"I have full faith in every member of our squad, guys whether they've played so far or not."
