Fiji Final Live on TV for Second Year

Cricket Fiji is delighted to announce that the 2012 LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament Final and post match formalities will be screened live on on Fiji One on Monday the 09th April with coverage scheduled to start at 1:45pm.

Last years final was a thrilling affair that had audiences glued to the TV around Fiji. This was the first time domestic cricket was screened live in the Pacific nation, giving the everyday audience and cricket lovers in Fiji the opportunity to watch the best local talent in action.

Cricket Fiji CEO Jon Symonds said he was delighted that a deal had been struck with Fiji One.

"The feedback we got after the event was phenomenal, with messages of congratulations for a great show coming in literally from all over the world, the boys and officials involved in the final were fired up to put on a spectacle for the viewers knowing that they were going to be on TV."

Symonds went onto say that Fiji One have been a good supporter of cricket and had made it clear that they wanted the exclusive rights to the Final again.

"I had a couple of chats with Fiji TV regarding the way their audiences had reacted to the cricket coverage and the feedback had been very positive so it was only natural to do a deal with Fiji One to bring the people of Fiji some good real action on the Easter Monday afternoon."

Fiji TV CEO Tarun Patel was also happy with the announcement.

"Cricket is a very popular game worldwide so we are hoping for an exciting day of cricket and for those people who cannot get to the grounds, I urge you to watch the game live on Fiji One," he said.

Symonds added "cricket is the second biggest sport on the planet and with the support of LICI and partners like Novotel, CricHq, JR White and Fiji One giving us coverage we are seeing the sport growing in Fiji and regaining its levels of popularity it had for many years. We must also not forget the coverage that the written press and radio give us to, it is very much appreciated."

The LICI Easter Tournament which is in its 61st year runs from the 2 April to the 9th April with two pools of 5 teams playing over 5 rounds to reach the semi finals and final, the defending champions are the Suva Warriors and the teams come from all over Fiji including Lau and Vanua Levu. This will be the second year in a row it is screened live on Fiji TV.
