The remaining fixtures for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia next year have been confirmed, with Bangladesh and Thailand qualifying through to the 10-team tournament from 21 February – 8 March 2020.

By winning the global qualifier event held in Scotland, Bangladesh goes into Group A, earning the right to take on hosts and defending champions Australia, as well as India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Thailand, who only played their first women's international match 12 years ago, made history by qualifying for their first ever major global cricket event (find out more about the rise of Thai cricket here). They take the final place in Group B, where they will play England, South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan.

The Australia-Bangladesh match will be at Manuka Oval in Canberra on Thursday 27 February in the evening.

Thailand’s first match of the event is scheduled for Saturday 22 February at the WACA Ground in Perth, where they will take on the West Indies, champions in 2016.

Bangladesh and Thailand are heading to Australia after winning through to the final of the qualifier event. Bangladesh won the final on Sunday morning (Australia time) by 70 runs. The eight top-ranked teams based on finishing positions from the last ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies in 2018, automatically qualified, with fixtures announced in January this year.

Australia will open the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 against India at Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday 21 February.

The final will be played at the biggest cricket stadium in the world, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, on Sunday 8 March 2020 – International Women’s Day. This presents the opportunity to set a world record for highest attendance at a women’s sporting fixture.

Later in the year, 16 teams will contest the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 from 18 October – 15 November. Australia will play its first match of the tournament at the iconic SCG on Saturday 24 October against the world’s top-ranked team, Pakistan.

ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee CEO, Nick Hockley, said: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Bangladesh and Thailand to Australia for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020.

“We know that both teams will receive fantastic support, from fans living here in Australia and those visiting from around the world.”
