Dhawan will lead a new-look India ODI squad in the series against South Africa that begins on October 6 in Lucknow. Mukesh Kumar and Rajat Patidar earned maiden call-ups while a few of the reserve players in the T20 World Cup squad were also part of the side named.

Shreyas Iyer, who is part of the reserves named for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia, will be the vice-captain with Deepak Chahar and Ravi Bishnoi the other players from the standby list to be named in the ODI team.

Shubman Gill, who impressed in limited opportunities in ODI colours, will likely resume his partnership with Dhawan at the top.

Rahul Tripathi, Rajat Patidar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are the other batters in the squad. Shahbaz Ahmed, who was recently called up to the T20I squad for the South Africa series, also finds a place.

Mukesh Kumar's impressive exploits in domestic cricket have also been rewarded. Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar are also part of the pace attack.

Spin duties will be shared by Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav with Shahbaz Ahmed offering left-arm variation.

The squad, with quite a few fresh faces, features six players that could potentially make an ODI debut. Four of the six are yet to play any international match.

The series begins in Lucknow on October 6 before Ranchi and Delhi host the last two matches on October 9 and October 11 respectively.
