Graham Thorpe "seriously ill" and currently receiving treatment in hospital
Graham Thorpe’s family, through the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), issued a statement that the former England star had fallen seriously ill and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
"Graham Thorpe has recently fallen seriously ill and is currently in hospital receiving treatment," read the statement made at the request of Graham Thorpe’s family via PCA.
"His prognosis is unclear at this stage and we ask for privacy for him and his family at this time. Our thoughts are with Graham and his family."
Graham Thorpe represented England in 182 internationals, including 100 Test matches. He aggregated 9124 runs across formats, which included 16 centuries and 60 half-centuries.
Post-retirement, he served as the batting coach for England's men's national team between 2010 and 2022 before he stepped down after the 4-0 Ashes defeat in Australia. In March 2022, the 52-year-old was appointed the Head Coach of Afghanistan.
