Hagley Oval - Venue

Hagley Oval is a cricket ground in Hagley Park in the central city of Christchurch. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1867, when Canterbury cricket team hosted Otago cricket team.

Hagley Oval's destiny as the historical and spiritual home of cricket in Canterbury was determined in the first days of a new and flourishing Christchurch.

The first One Day International at the ground was played between Scotland and Canada during the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Hagley Oval was also the host ground of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015, including its Opening Ceremony and Final.

The careers of a whole succession of cricket’s local heroes, including Sir Richard Hadlee have played at Hagley Oval. It will undoubtedly launch the careers of our aspiring cricket heroes of tomorrow.

In 2020, the Hagley Oval Cricket Precinct has seen the installation of six permanent light towers which has brought day/night cricket to Christchurch. The Lights have cemented Hagley Oval’s position as one of the best international cricket grounds in the country.

Hagley Oval will host 5 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022, including a Semi-Final and the Final on Sunday 3 April 2022.
