ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Regional Finalists confirmed

The Philippines snared the final place from the sub-regional qualifiers when they defeated South Korea to finish ahead of Japan on the final day of the East Asia Pacific Group B tournament.

A total of 62 countries were part of the first phase of the tournament's qualifying structure, with all vying to be one of 16 teams that will head to Australia in October 2020. All in all 78 countries will take the field as part of the qualifying pathway or tournament itself, highlighting T20 cricket's standing as the primary format for globalising the game.

The standout performance was Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane, who in the Asia B Qualifiers in Malaysia took 24 wickets in six matches at an average of 2.37.

More so than the performances on the field however, it was the passion, enthusiasm and spirit by which the teams played in that proved a standout.

The next stage will entail five separate regional finals that will take place in 2019, with eight teams advancing to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifier, which will feature 14 teams vying for 6 places at the main event.
