ICC U19 Men's CWC Australia and West Indies Captain Quotes
West Indies 169 all out (40.1 overs); Australia 170/4 (44.5 overs)
Australia captain Cooper Connolly:
****“I’m pretty happy, especially with our bowling performance. Against India we were a bit all over the shop, but today we brought it back well, which is exactly what I wanted from the boys.
****“To take early wickets and then build pressure from our spin during the middle [was the key].
“We just talked about getting off to a good start and not losing too many early wickets in the powerplay [during the hallway stage], and from there just manipulate spin and play spin well.
“The keys [to our two partnerships] were just communicating out there, getting yourself off strike and putting away the bad balls to put them back under pressure.
“[We need to improve on] catching – myself!”
West Indies captain Ackeem Auguste:
“I think we always thought [our total] was defendable – we always believed that we could have defended our total as long as we got early wickets and broke partnerships.
“On pitches like those, as long as you get in you try to go big and get over a hundred, at least, to aid your team’s performance.
“We were talking about trying to get as many early wickets as possible [at the halfway stage] and build pressure from there.
“I think we bowled fairly well – our bowlers were fairly economical. Although we didn’t take as many wickets as we would have liked, we took the game as deep as possible. We bowled 44 overs, so that was fairly good based on the low total that we posted.”
