ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees for December revealed
An outstanding Australian, a star Indian batter, and a record-breaking Proteas bowler are among the top contenders for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for December 2024.
Smriti Mandhana (India)
The 28-year-old batter was a standout performer for India during their challenging tour of Australia. After struggling in the first two ODIs, where she was dismissed cheaply, Mandhana displayed her brilliance in the final match, scoring a stunning century – 105 runs off just 109 balls.
Mandhana carried her exceptional form into the home series against the West Indies, where she notched up two impressive fifties. Her dominance wasn’t limited to the 50-over format; she also showcased her prowess in T20Is, smashing three fifties in three matches to lead India to a 2-1 series victory.
In total, the opener amassed 270 runs in six ODIs at an average of 45.00 and a strike rate of 91.52. In the T20 format, she scored 193 runs in three matches at a remarkable average of 64.33 and an explosive strike rate of 159.50.

Annabel Sutherland (Australia)
The all-rounder delivered with both bat and ball as Australia remained unbeaten in the five ODIs they played in December 2024. Sutherland scored a total of 269 runs, which included two centuries – a brilliant 110 against India in Perth, followed by an unbeaten 105 against New Zealand in Wellington. With the ball, she claimed nine wickets, including a match-winning performance of 4/39 in the second ODI against India in Brisbane. Her outstanding contributions earned her the Player of the Series award for the matches against India and New Zealand.
Sutherland amassed a total of 269 ODI runs at an impressive average of 67.25 with a strike rate of 113.98. With the ball, she took nine wickets at an economy rate of 3.85 and an average of 16.22.

Nonkululeko Mlaba (South Africa)
Nonkululeko Mlaba was the shining star for South Africa in their historic one-off Test against England in Bloemfontein. Despite South Africa losing the Test, Mlaba became the first South African woman to claim a ten-wicket haul in Tests, finishing with 10 wickets at an average of 15.70. She also featured in the three-match ODI series against England, where she took 2 wickets and scored 20 runs. However, South Africa lost the series 1-2.
In December, Mlaba scored 14 runs and picked up 10 wickets at an average of 15.70 in red-ball cricket. In ODIs, she scored 20 runs and took 2 wickets with an economy rate of 6.06 and an average of 45.50.
