ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 shortlisted for national award
The ground-breaking tournament attracted an overall attendance of more than 136,000 people to 23 matches in six host cities around the country and generated unprecedented television and digital audience numbers. It culminated in a crowd of 86,174 at the final between Australia and India at the MCG, a record attendance for a women's sporting event in Australia.
The opening celebration at the first match of the tournament between Australia and India, produced by Michael Cassell Group, is also a finalist in the ‘Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event’ category, fitting recognition for the spectacular way the tournament commenced in Sydney back in February.

“The entries put forward for judging on average scored significantly higher than last year," said Brenda LaPorte, co-chair of the judging panel.
"This is an incredible result knowing what the industry has been through in 2020. It clearly reflects the high quality of the events delivered across Australia and what we have to look forward to when our industry makes its comeback.”
Entries are judged by industry leaders and experts from around Australia on all aspects of event management including best practice, innovation, marketing, stakeholder engagement and management, sustainability and event legacy.
Australian Event Award winners will be announced in October 2020. Other ‘Best Sporting Event’ category nominations include the Bledisloe Cup rugby event in Perth and Manchester United's tour last year, while recent winners were the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix (2019) and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (2018).
