ICC World Twenty20 tickets still available

The ICC World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 LOC today announced that there are still tickets available for the World Twenty20 tournament. The tournament will be hosted in three venues, the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban and Cape Town's Newlands Stadium. All stadiums still have tickets for sale.

The matches that are sold out are, amongst others, the opening ceremony and first match between South Africa and the West Indies on Tuesday, 11 September 2007 and the Final on the 24 September 2007 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The Super Eights double-header at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday, 16 September 2007 and the first semi-final to be played on Saturday, 22 September 2007 with a 14h00 start at Newlands in Cape Town also have the 'Sold Out' signs up.

The Super Eights double header at Newlands in Cape Town will have the two teams from Group A and Group B that have qualified in their group. In Group A, are hosts South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh. Group B has Australia, England and Zimbabwe in it. All grass embankment tickets are sold out at Newlands in Cape Town. The stadium also has the lowest amount of tickets available of the three venues.

The Group D match at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday, 14 September 2007 between sub-continent giants India and Pakistan has limited tickets still available.

At the Wanderers in Johannesburg, the three group stage matches from the Thursday, 13 September 2007 to Saturday, 15 September 2007 still have approximately 9 000 tickets in all areas of the stadium available.

The opening ceremony format and start time is still to be confirmed, but the South Africa - West Indies match starts at 18h00 and should provide adrenalin packed action until the scheduled 21h00 finish.

Tournament Director, Steve Elworthy said in a statement today: "The tickets went on sale on the 14th of June and this response is phenomenal.

"The public have appreciated ICC and CSA'S efforts to expose this format of the game to as many spectators as possible.

"The spectators will be able to see 12 international teams competing to lift the inaugural World Twenty20 Trophy on Heritage Day.

"All the fundamental elements are in place to provide spectator value for the entire family and enhance the experience for everyone that has not been to a cricket match before.

"We are really excited that most of the matches are selling really well. This simply means that we are all in for 13 days of action. The stadiums are ready. All operational matters are nearing finality and some countries have already named their 30-man squads. We are truly encouraged by the enthusiasm of everyone."
