Imam ul Haq while fielding today during the first Test match has fractured his left hand's fifth finger and has been ruled out from the second Test match against Australia.
The injury will come as a blow with Imam having played a key role in setting up a strong position for his team, scoring 76 in an opening partnership of 205 with Mohammed Hafeez in the first innings and 48 in the second innings to extend Pakistan's lead.
Pakistan are yet to name his replacement. One option is promoting No.3 Azhar Ali to open, as he did in England earlier in the year. Another might be giving a Test debut to Fakhar Zaman, who has starred in limited overs cricket in recent times.
