In-form T20 World Cup stars make big rankings move
Sri Lanka have been the surprise packet so far in South Africa with two wins from as many games and inspirational skipper Chamari Athapaththu made eye-caching moves on the rankings for batters and all-rounders.
Athapaththu is the leading run scorer at the event with 83 runs and that has seen the left-hander jump one spot to ninth. Australia’s Tahlia McGrath continues to lead the chart.
Athapaththu also jumps to places to 12 on the list for all-rounders, while teammates Harshita Samarawickrama (up nine spots to 43rd on the list for batters) and Inoka Ranaweera (up 11 spots to 18th for bowlers) too make giant strides.
Australia and England are among the other unbeaten sides at the T20 World Cup to date and experienced Aussie opener Alyssa Healy moved up two spots to seventh on the latest list for batters after a classy half-century against the Kiwis first-up.
Evergreen star Ellyse Perry improves four spots to equal 25 on the list for batters, while No.1 ranked all-rounder Ash Gardner moves up seven places to sixth for bowlers after a five-wicket haul against the Kiwis.
There was also some joy for England duo Sarah Glenn and Alice Capsey, with the former rising one place to third on the bowler rankings and the latter improving 13 spots to 38th on the list for batters.
While West Indies' results on the field haven't been great in South Africa as yet, they will be buoyed by the improvements made by skipper Hayley Matthews on the latest rankings.
Matthews jumps four places to 18th on the list for batters and improves one spot to third overall on the all-rounder rankings.
