India record new T20I high, narrowly miss 300-run mark in Hyderabad

India smashed the second-highest score in men's T20I history against Bangladesh in the third and final T20I in Hyderabad. Opting to bat first, Sanju Samson blazed away for India, smashing a 40-ball century, the second-fastest by an Indian in men's T20Is.

Samson was complemented by an array of hitters in the middle-order, with skipper Suryakumar Yadav (75 off 35 balls), Riyan Parag (34 off 13 balls) and Hardik Pandya (47 off 18 balls) contributing to a stunning total.

Last year, Nepal had recorded a total of 314/3 against Mongolia, the highest total ever recorded in men's T20Is.

India's total of 297/6 is the highest by a full-member team in T20I history. Afghanistan had recorded a total of 278/3 against Ireland in 2019. India's previous highest was a total of 260/5 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Incidentally, this was the game that saw Rohit Sharma smash a 35-ball century, the fastest by an Indian in T20Is.

Samson's 40-ball hundred comes right behind with the wicketkeeper-batter putting on a show in Hyderabad, smashing 11 fours and eight sixes in his knock. Five of those sixes came in a single over by spinner Rishad Hossain.

Samson's knock is the first time that a designated Indian wicketkeeper has made a hundred in men's T20Is.
