Injury robs New Zealand of Chapman return for Pakistan finale

Mark Chapman ruled out of the third ODI, with Tim Seifert to remain with the squad for the series finale.

New Zealand will have to do without Mark Chapman for the final match of their three-game ODI series against Pakistan after the in-form batter failed to recover from his hamstring injury.

Chapman hurt his hamstring while fielding after scoring a century during the opening match of the series in Napier and was subsequently ruled out of the second clash with Pakistan in Hamilton as the Black Caps opened up an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

It was hoped Chapman would be fit to return for the last contest at Mount Maunganui on Saturday, but the 30-year-old failed a fitness test at training on Friday and will not be risked.

It means Tim Seifert will remain with the squad and could come into contention for a place in the XI should selectors opt to make a change to the team that won well in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Seifert was Player of the Series during the recent five-match T20I series that New Zealand won 4-1 over Pakistan, but the 30-year-old is yet to receive a chance to add to his three previous international ODI appearances for his country.
