I've never thought about double hundreds – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma

The innings was Sharma’s 21st century in the format and the seventh time he’s passed 150 – more than any other player.

And having been dismissed in the 44th over of the innings on Monday, a further double ton would not have been out of the questions had he stayed in.

“I was thinking to score as many runs as possbile, I don’t think about getting hundreds or double hundreds, I just want to bat, score runs and get the team in to good positions,” Sharma said after the match.

“In fact, [Ambati] Rayudu was telling me from the other side that I can get a double hundred. But I was just trying to focus on my batting and not to think about how I’m going to get to double hundred. The three double hundreds that I’ve got, I had never thought about getting them.”

Sharma’s innings – his second 150-plus score of the series – was his first ODI century in his hometown of Mumbai.

“I understand the nature of the pitch and what it does when the spinners are bowling, what helps the spinners when the ball turns. Those things are important."

With India 2-1 up, West Indies are seeking to level the series 2-2 in the fifth and final ODI on Thursday.
