Jacob Oram joins New Zealand Women coaching staff

Jacob Oram, the former New Zealand all-rounder, has been named bowling coach of the New Zealand Women’s team.

Oram will join head coach Haidee Tiffen’s staff, which also includes Matt Bell, who has extended his contract as batting coach, New Zealand Cricket announced on Tuesday, 6 March.

Oram’s 18-month contract will take him through to the middle of 2019, past the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 later this year.

Oram, 39, has already joined the squad, who are 1-0 up against Windies Women in their three-match one-day international series, which will be followed by five T20 internationals.

With the experience of 229 international games and 252 wickets to draw from, Oram has worked with the team in the past and has also coached individual players.

“From when I was last with the White Ferns, the whole environment of women’s cricket has grown exponentially. I wanted to be part of that. With the T20 leagues and the girls being a little more professional, and we’ve got massive tours coming up to England and Ireland and the T20 World Cup, the whole package was very attractive,” he said.

“Jake’s a great guy and builds strong relationships,” said Tiffen. “We’ve seen what he can do through his work with Hannah Rowe at the Central Hinds and we’re looking forward to having him with us on a full-time touring basis.”
