Jason Roy named in England squad for Ireland Test

Roy played a starring role in England’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory, hitting 443 runs in seven innings to be named in the Team of the Tournament.

A few regular faces in the England set-up are missing from the 13-man squad: Ben Stokes, Player-of-the-Match in the World Cup final, has been rested alongside Jos Buttler while Mark Wood is missing due to a side strain which will see him out of action for four to six weeks.

Lewis Gregory is another to receive a maiden Test call-up having enjoyed an impressive season in the County Championship for Somerset; the bowling all-rounder has taken 44 wickets at an average of 13.88 and returned 363 runs with the bat at an average of 30.25.

Olly Stone – yet to make his Test debut – has also been included having made a full recovery from a stress fracture that saw him prematurely return home from England's tour of West Indies earlier this year.

Jofra Archer was not considered for selection and has been given a period of rest ahead of the forthcoming Ashes series. The fast bowler has been awarded an incremental contract by the ECB for the next 12 months.

A 16-man squad for a pre-Ashes training camp this weekend has also been announced.

The four-day Test between England and Ireland will commence on Wednesday 24 July at Lord's.
