Jason Roy soaks in 'emotional' century after rough night

Roy scored a spectacular 114 in 89 balls and laid the foundation for England's three-wicket win over Pakistan in a chase of 340. It was his third 50-plus score in the series, and the 28-year old is its leading run-getter with 277 runs at 92.33.

However, Roy revealed the ton came after a sleepless night, having had to rush his two-month old daughter to the hospital in the early hours of morning. "This is a special one for me and my family," Roy told BBC Sport."We had to take my little one to hospital at 01:30 in the morning. I stayed there until 08:30 and came back for a couple of hours sleep.

"I got to the ground just before warm-up and cracked on. It was a very emotional moment."

Despite the difficult night, there was good news in that his daughter's condition isn't thought to be serious. And Roy wasn't to be stopped from smashing 11 fours and four sixes in his knock. The opener, however, was as surprised as anyone, and said there was still a lot to work upon.

"I'm not in the form of my life. It was not my most fluent of innings, but was it an extremely special feeling [to] get over three figures? I didn't see it coming," said Roy.

England's stand-in captain Jos Buttler lauded Roy, and said his contributions over the last few years had been one of their biggest positives. "The strength of the batting line-up has been a big plus for us overs the past few years," said Buttler.

"Jason played fantastically well and it is great to watch him in full flow. We had four really poor overs with some soft dismissals, but Ben Stokes [71*] played fantastically well, and for him to soak up that pressure and play so well will give him a lot of confidence."

The final ODI against Pakistan will be played in Leeds on Sunday, 19 May.
