Jon Lewis named new Head Coach of England Women
Jon Lewis has been named the new Head Coach of the England Women's cricket team. His first assignment as coach will be the tour of the West Indies, for which the team will depart on 29 November.
Lewis has previously worked as Head Coach of the England Young Lions. He was also the Elite Pace Bowling Coach since 2021 and worked with England Men’s Test and white-ball teams.
The 47-year-old had a glittering domestic career with over 1100 wickets in a career spanning over 19 years.
Speaking on his appointment, Lewis said, “It’s very exciting to have been appointed as Head Coach of the England Women’s team. It’s a new challenge, and one that I can’t wait to get stuck into.
“I’ve watched from a distance over the last few years and it’s clear that there are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about this team’s chances going forward.
“The last couple of years have seen the introduction of some younger players and that, allied with the increased strength in depth coming from the regional game, is a really promising sign for the coming few years.
“Our immediate focus is the West Indies, and particularly getting some points on the board in the ICC Women’s Championship, and then we’ll look ahead to South Africa and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.”
England Women will be looking to turn their fortunes around the ICC Women's Championship standings, where they have lost three games out of three so far.
Thereafter, the focus will shift to ICC Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa where England are up against India, Ireland, Pakistan and West Indies in Group B. The marquee event kicks off on 10 February 2023 in South Africa.
