Jonassen, Wareham star as Australia complete 3-0 sweep of West Indies

Australia finished their Caribbean tour undefeated after registering a comfortable nine-wicket win in the final Twenty20 International at Kensington Oval on Wednesday, 18 September.

Spinner Jonassen was the pick of the bowlers, returning a career-best 4/7, while Wareham chipped in with three scalps.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat. Pacer Megan Schutt provided Australia with the first breakthrough, sending opener Kyshona Knight back for just 2 off the first ball of the third over. From there, Australia spinners Jonassen and Wareham took charge and did most of the damage.

Wareham first dismissed West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor, who struggled with the bat in her 100th T20I, and managed only 6 off 19 before she was caught by Jonassen.

West Indies only managed 32 runs for the loss of two wickets in the first 10 overs. Jonassen removed Stacy-Ann King in the 12th over, while Britney Cooper was the next in line to be dismissed. Cooper, who scored a 35-ball 29, and was the only batter to show some resistance, was trapped in front by Wareham.

From 75/4, West Indies slumped to 81 all out – losing their last six wickets for just six runs. Jonassen picked up two wickets in the 18th over, which also featured a run-out of Shabika Gajnabi.

Alyssa Healy made the chase look easy as she hit a quick 16-ball 38, studded with six fours and two sixes, before she was caught by Karishma Ramharack off Afy Fletcher. Healy was the only wicket to fall; Beth Mooney (24 off 18) and Ellyse Perry (17 off 11) completed the chase in just 7.3 overs.
