JP Duminy out of South Africa's tour to Australia

Duminy, who captained South Africa in the first two matches of their recent ODI series at home to Zimbabwe, is to undergo surgery on his right shoulder. The injury means that he will not be taking part in South Africa's ODI and T20I series against Australia this November. The series will undoubtedly be used by both sides as crucial preparation for next year's ICC Cricket World Cup.

It is unclear at this point how long Duminy will be out of action for.

“JP aggravated a pre-existing shoulder injury during the recently concluded series against Zimbabwe," said Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee. "The injury will require surgical management thus ruling him out of the immediate tour of Australia and the upcoming MSL. At the moment we can’t say how long he will be out for, that is dependent on the results from the surgery.”

As well as the tour to Australia, Duminy will also miss the inaugural Mzansi Super League where he was due to appear as a marquee player for Cape Town Blitz.

South Africa will be itching for Duminy to return to full fitness. The 34-year-old is a key cog in the South African white-ball set-up, having appeared in 192 ODIs to date.
