Katey Martin looks back to 'gut-wrenching' WT20

New Zealand, drawn in the same group as Australia, India, Pakistan and Ireland in the tournament in November, were backed to make it to the knock-outs, but crashed out of the tournament after back-to-back defeats to India and Australia.

"It was really disappointing," Martin told Locker Room. "We probably favour our T20 side at the moment and we expected to perform really well.

"I was quite emotional about that Australia game. Obviously being out in the middle and trying to control the game for us to get across the line and then getting out at a crucial time was pretty gut-wrenching."

New Zealand lost to India in their tournament opener, leaving them with a must-win game against Australia as their second match. But, chasing 154, they were bowled out for 120, effectively ending their chances at making it past the group stage.

"It makes it pretty hard for the rest of the tournament when you know you're out halfway through. We performed with pride in the last couple of games, but it was definitely a difficult tournament," Martin added.

New Zealand, though, are looking to put the World T20 behind them. They will host India for three one-day internationals and three T20 internationals early in 2019, and have payback on their mind.

"We are really excited about the summer coming up," said Martin. "You have just got to park what has happened and move on. We've got some wrongs to right against India. [This time] it's our conditions and we absolutely thrive in these conditions."
