Key South Africa pacer ruled out of white-ball contests against Pakistan

South Africa speedster Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the Pakistan T20I and ODI series due to a toe injury.

Nortje will miss the remainder of the matches in the T20I series against Pakistan, and the subsequent ODI series due to a toe injury. These games were supposed to be a return to international cricket for the 31-year-old pacer.

The fast bowler initially missed out of the first T20I on Tuesday, 10 December after sustaining a contusion to his left big toe during training ahead of the opening match. Subsequent scans on Wednesday revealed a fracture. South Africa had beaten Pakistan by 11 runs in the first game.

Uncapped all-rounder Dayyaan Galiem has been named as his replacement for the remaining two T20Is.

A statement from Cricket South Africa stated that Nortje would consult with a specialist orthopaedic surgeon to determine the recovery period.
